Here’s a link drop of sites I visit on a regular basis (i.e. every morning at least), some are design related, some are about comics and others are about the real world.

Blogs
The Beat
Solid comic journalism and reporting at the Publishers Weekly site by Heidi McDonald.

Blog@Newsarama
Comic blog at Newsarama, more mainstream and fanboy-ish. Marvel and DC comics news aplenty.

Ashley Wood
He kind of stopped updating his main site, so all the latest news and art are posted here.

Carsonified!
Ryan Carson’s blog where he spills the beans on how he runs his business. Hats included.

YWFT Blog
A relative new one on the list. Lots of interesting design links here.

Brian Wood
Official site/blog from writer/artist/designer Brian Wood, author of Vertigo’s DMZ series.

PULPHOPE
Blog of artist Paul Pope (Heavy Liquid, Batman Year 100)

Warren Ellis
Site / blog of writer Warren Ellis. He posts several times a day, sometimes new work, but mostly interesting bits he finds on the web. Not always safe for work or for people easily offended.

THE SERIF
Quickly becoming my favourite design blog, with excellent links and work posted daily. Also has an extensive links database.

FormFiftyFive
Another very good design blog.

Manystuff
A French (although its in English) design blog run by Charlotte Cheetham. No fluff, just links and pictures.

Swiss Legacy
Design blog run by Loïc Sattler and Xavier focussing on typography, Swiss graphic design and grids.

Design Observer
No extra explanation needed.

CR Blog
The Creative Review blog.

Forums
Sharpenings
The official Liam Sharp / Mam Tor™ Publishing forum.

THE ENGINE
Forum ran by Warren Ellis. If you like comics and want to read more serious discussion than who would win a fight between Batman and Captain America this is the place. Lots of industry people on this board, art previews and general inside info in the sometimes murky world of comics. - EDIT:The Engine closed down after 2 years

Luckily, The Engine was followed by Panel and Pixel, and equally great forum, inspired by The Engine and curated by Rantz Hosely.

Millar World
Forum of comic book writer Mark Millar. Fanboy-central. If you’re a comic geek you’ll like this place.

The Real World
BBC News

Wikipedia
I can honestly spend days here, an insane amount of information on almost anything.

YouTube
As if I need to say why.

Haven’t had time to post the last couple of days. The future in-laws are visiting, so we’re taking them around London, having sumptous British and European meals (ROASTS! PIES!) and spending time with them. Tomorrow we’re off to Antwerp so I can show them my roots, the family and eat more meat and chocolate!

This weekend I’ll be at the Comic Expo in Bristol.
Its the second time I’m going, and I’ll be part of the Mam Tor™ Publishing line-up as usual.
This year is a bit special, since our anthology Event Horizon has been nominated for an Eagle Award, very cool indeed!

Comic conventions are a weird beast, it’s all advertised as a big event, which in reality is just a warehouse where retailers are selling their stock out of cardboard long boxes with some posters of your favourite heroes stuck to the walls… There’s an air of fandom geekery obsession in the air and sometimes the musty aroma of dried sweat.
But its all in good spirits, and a good excuse to head to the bar of the hotel that doubles as event venue and indulge in a beer or two, and gawk to your favourite writer or artist telling them you’re their number one fan!

So, if you’re a fellow comic geek (with high personal hygiene) and are in the area - come and say hello, and buy our books! They’re really really nice.

Well. It had to happen sooner or later. I wanted a space where I can quickly post stuff that I want to show and/or talk about – be it work in progress, new stuff, or just give a good rant on design. Whatever. I’ll see what happens.

Welcome aboard.
