Almost forgot about this one until I was going through my backup drive…!
At the beginning of last year, my good friends Ash & Von who operate Umeric (if you’ve never heard of them, go check out their work) asked me during one of our IM chats (where we usually profess our knowledge of JC Van Damme flicks) if I wanted to help them out with a project they were doing for MTV Australia. They were in the process of designing a series of idents for them, and wondered if I could have a look at the design of the channel on-air graphics. MTV had just done an in-house overhaul, but were willing to change it if Umeric, as part of their project, could come up with something better.
I spent a day or so knocking out a series of design ideas to set a visual tone which they then could put in their presentation, trying to come up with some interesting variations on the existing look. Even though Ash & Von were really happy with my work (noticing that with each design my type became smaller and smaller) MTV decided to stick to their guns in the end in terms of the on-air look.
Nevertheless, it was a good creative workout (and helping out friends is always good fun), and here is a selection of a few of my favourite designs.

I like these. Really slick. Its tough getting things through the process of approval over at the MTV. Too bad for them, not that I would have ever seen them.
