Type, originally uploaded by helloMuller.

Working on designing a complete typeface. Usually when I’m designing logos or mastheads, I limit myself to only the letters I need for the project. That approach is pretty narrow-minded in the sense that I don’t consider the “rules” for the typeface which gives problems once I entertain the thought of expanding 5 or 10 charachters into a full set. This time around I was working on a logo — with letterforms heavily inspired by the classic Hiroshima poster by Wim Crouwel — and actually made a consious effort to have some design rules for consistency in the back of my head while designing letterforms. So now the logo is done and have just expanded it to the full 26 charachter set. Of course now come all the ligatures and whatnot to make it a complete workable font.

Cover ideas, originally uploaded by helloMuller.

A couple of ideas for the cover image of the book thing I’m working on. Kind of tricky to try and distill everything in 1 image — or pick an image that is representative of everything! Personally I’m veering towards 3 and 4, being that those images are more known than 1 & 2 (those being newer designs).

Logo sampler 2001 — 2009, originally uploaded by helloMuller.

I’ve posted a selection of logos I designed since 2001 on Flickr (so go ahead to see the full size image there).
By no means does it show all the logos I’ve designed, but my selection of favourites (including some that never made it past concept stages for a variety of reasons).

Tease: its a double page spread of a book thing I’m assembling…

3A Legion/naire

A 1-off custom T-Shirt for fans/members/supporters of 3A Toys, the brainchild of Ashley Wood & ThreeZero. A limited run of 50-ish T-shirts were screen printed, each with unique username.
I did some tweaking on the 3A logo (didn’t design it) and designed the ‘dogtag’ template for the back of the shirt, while fellow forum member Jared Cain did all the printing.

Ahh, being a fanboy can be fun sometimes.

layertennis

Tomorrow (Friday, February 6th 2009) the new season of Layer Tennis starts — hosted, as always, by the excellent Coudal Partners in Chicago!

The 2009 Layer Tennis season kicks off with an ambitious exhibition this Friday at 2pm Central (find your local time). 252,000 pixels will leave San Francisco at noon Pacific, then trek through New York, Montreal, London, Lisbon, Paris, Stockholm, Kiev, and Manila, in 15-minute intervals, before appearing in Singapore at 6:15am Saturday, local time. You, O traveller of time and space, will witness each volley live, over the course of a couple hours, without leaving your trendy desk chair. This exhibition is free to be witnessed by all, but if you want the best seats and VIP treatment, please sign up for (free!) Season Tickets post-haste. This incredible voyage is possible thanks to Adobe® Creative Suite® 4, the weapon of choice for Layer Tennis players and creative professionals everywhere.

I’ll be representing the London leg, and will be joined by other fine designers like Scott Hansen, Armin Vit, Evan Melnyk, Adriana de Barros, David Rondel Cambou + Nathalie Melato, Armin Osmancevic + Werk, Briana Bolger, Jose Illenberger, and Fanny Khoo + Tom Merckx!

netmag 186.net magazine issue 186 has just been released, and has amongst the usual features an article on “Going global” — or how to cater your site to a global online public — where I briefly explain how Kleber tailored the AC/DC Rocks for an international (and multi-lingual) audience.
