24-7

Almost done with the cover design for the 2nd book of 24SEVEN edited by Ivan (NYC Mech, The Cross Bronx) Brandon with a cover by Ashley Wood published by Image Comics!

I did a truckload of logo designs until making a 180º turn and going for the “Robo Clock”.

This weekend I’ll be at the Comic Expo in Bristol.
Its the second time I’m going, and I’ll be part of the Mam Tor™ Publishing line-up as usual.
This year is a bit special, since our anthology Event Horizon has been nominated for an Eagle Award, very cool indeed!

Comic conventions are a weird beast, it’s all advertised as a big event, which in reality is just a warehouse where retailers are selling their stock out of cardboard long boxes with some posters of your favourite heroes stuck to the walls… There’s an air of fandom geekery obsession in the air and sometimes the musty aroma of dried sweat.
But its all in good spirits, and a good excuse to head to the bar of the hotel that doubles as event venue and indulge in a beer or two, and gawk to your favourite writer or artist telling them you’re their number one fan!

So, if you’re a fellow comic geek (with high personal hygiene) and are in the area - come and say hello, and buy our books! They’re really really nice.

machivarius point

Still working on the cover… The first draft of the type treatment didn’t work… most people I showed it to couldn’t read it and everything was wonky… So I straightened everything out… now having fun in Illustrator.

machivarious point

I’m currently working on the covers for 2 new novels for Mam Tor™ Publishing – Machivarious Point and St. Cyborg – the first a collection of fantasy tales (think Michael Moorcock meets Conan), the latter an SF novel.

The image above is the Machivarious Point masthead/book logo in progress…

Worry Doll poster

So I just wrapped up the design for the Worry Doll convention poster – which will be used at the upcoming Bristol Expo later this month. Usually with these things the turnaround is / has to be pretty quick; and although I can do pretty much what I want for all the Mam Tor™ stuff, this poster is a good example of adding and substracting to make sure everyone is happy.

The Worry Doll book which went on sale in February this year has been quite a success. The book got a lot of mainstream press coverage across the globe. So for the upcoming Con, Liam (Mam Tor’s publisher/Ed-in Chief) wanted to capitalize on the press the book had received to advertise it at our stand with an A0 sized poster.

oneironaut in progress

2 years ago I wrote and designed a short SF story “Oneironaut“, which was published in the first issue of Mam Tor: Event Horizon™, and ever since I’ve been toying with the idea of expanding the 8 page sequence to a “proper” graphic novel, or novella.

Well. It had to happen sooner or later. I wanted a space where I can quickly post stuff that I want to show and/or talk about – be it work in progress, new stuff, or just give a good rant on design. Whatever. I’ll see what happens.

Welcome aboard.
